Amazon will be forced to assess the risks of the epidemic for its employees, confirmed this Friday the Versailles Court of Appeal. The court widened the list of products that the company can continue to deliver pending this assessment (IT, health, nutrition, groceries, drinks ...) and limited the penalty to 100,000 euros per offense instead of one million Euros.

Amazon had appealed a decision of the judicial court of Nanterre which ordered it to limit its activities to hygiene products, medical products and food pending a risk assessment conducted with employee representatives, under penalty of a fine of one million euros per violation found. In its judgment Friday, the court of appeal confirms this order but relaxes the restriction of activity and specifies it compared to the catalog of the company.

Towards a possible reopening of warehouses

Amazon will have to stick within 48 hours to high-tech products, IT, office and "Everything for animals", health and body care, man, nutrition, drugstore, as well as groceries, drinks and maintenance, indicates the court of appeal. After this 48 hour period, each infraction will be penalized up to 100,000 euros for a maximum of one month.

The list of products, wider than in Nanterre's decision and based on the company's nomenclature, opens the way for the sites to be reopened. Amazon had not yet reacted in the middle of the afternoon.

The group preferred to close its warehouses in France after the first Nanterre injunction, deeming it impossible to precisely define the products authorized for delivery and fearing to be fined. Sud, 1st union at Amazon France, which had filed a complaint, underlines on its twitter account that "the Court confirms the order made on April 14" and that "the central social and economic committee and the ESCs" of 6 warehouses will be "consulted and associated with risk assessment ”.
