The Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, received on Wednesday a phone call from US President Donald Trump, during which they discussed the strategic relations between Qatar and the United States and the most prominent regional and international events.

The Qatar News Agency said that Sheikh Tamim and Trump discussed strengthening relations between the two countries, as well as ways to combat the Corona virus and areas of cooperation in preventing it and limiting its spread.

For his part, the White House said in a statement that the American President and the Emir of Qatar agreed on the importance of the Taliban reducing violence in Afghanistan, noting that Trump expressed to Sheikh Tamim his thanks to his country's efforts in the file of sponsoring the peace process in Afghanistan. 

The statement added that the two leaders also agreed on the importance of continuing the discussion on the release of prisoners in Afghanistan.
