A Montpellier garage owner, tried in direct appearance, was sentenced to 18 months in prison by the Montpellier Criminal Court. His accomplice received 6 months in prison. The court did not issue a warrant. The two men stole cars which they used to make up damaged vehicles in order to resell them at a high price.

On April 6, a man filed a complaint with the police station for the night theft of his vehicle, equipped with a geolocation system. The police were quickly able to spot him, parked in the parking lot of a shopping center in Lattes.

On April 20, when the vehicle was moved to a garage, the Bac then intervened and arrested two men dismantling the vehicle. During the search of the garage, the police discovered an electronic keyless starting device, a machine for printing license plates, registration cards and numerous spare parts.

At the home of one of the two men, investigators found a second vehicle stolen on April 7. In police custody, they explained that they wanted to reverse engineer the vehicles to mount the parts on damaged cars, previously purchased for meager sums, in order to make a significant profit.
