Lebanon recorded the first infection with the emerging coronavirus, inside a Palestinian refugee camp in the Bekaa region in the east, according to what an international organization announced, while a medical team went to the site, to conduct tests for its residents. The UNRWA announced, in a statement, last night, that the injured woman had been transferred from the Galilee camp in Baalbek to the Rafic Hariri University Hospital in Beirut for treatment, without any details of her age and health status. The victim, according to the statement, is a Palestinian refugee residing in the camp after her displacement from neighboring Syria.

The organization will cover the costs of treating the affected woman and providing the family with the assistance needed, so that she can isolate herself inside the home.

Yesterday, a team from Rafic Hariri Hospital went to the camp to conduct tests to detect the presence of people living with the virus. And the National Information Agency, the official in Lebanon, stated that it would include the affected family and those who had contact with it, in addition to taking random samples inside the camp and in the vicinity of more than 50 people.

And it reported on "tough measures", taken since the night before last, at the entrances of the camp by the security forces and Palestinian factions inside it, "to prevent entry and exit from it." She stated that «cars toured the loudspeakers inside, calling on its residents to adhere to the home quarantine, and not to mix and gather in the squares.

The camp, also known as "Waffle", which is located at the southern entrance to Baalbek, houses 2000 people, according to the latest census of the Lebanese authorities, while the number registered with UNRWA is much more than that.

Lebanon, which has imposed a general mobilization since the middle of last month, has recorded 677 injuries so far, including 21 deaths.
