Every year, SVT Sport takes a closer look at how the audience average has been for all sports teams in Sweden that have more than 1,000 spectators. The audience barometer for the 2019/2020 season shows that the Dackarna slipped from 34th place to 46th place. This year's audience average was 2,492 spectators per match.

Many dark clouds

It came as no surprise to the Dackers chairman Tomas Karlsson. This is a topic that is frequently discussed at the club. He sees several reasons why fewer have come to the matches.

- Speedway is very weather sensitive. We had dark clouds in the sky almost every Tuesday, says Tomas Karlsson.

He also believes that the fact that the games are broadcast live and free online has made it so.

Can't afford to drive without crowds

The Ducks need to have audiences in their matches to get the economy together.

- We added a group that got free hands. They looked at what we can do before the matches, such as competitions, interviews with drivers and jumping castle for the kids.

But now the plans have been temporarily put on ice. The Coronavirus's advancement caused the speedway premiere to be postponed until June and at present it is unclear when the season can begin.

- It feels very heavy, the uncertainty is the worst. We don't know if we can get started in June or if it even goes in July or August, says Tomas Karlsson.

Västervik's audience figures also dropped last season. The speedway team in the north lost 15 percent.
