Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed today that there is no military solution to the Libyan crisis, and said that it is necessary to adhere to the results of the agreement concluded at the Berlin conference held in January.

Lavrov's statement came in a meeting he held today with representatives of the People's Diplomatic Association via a television circle, in which the Russian minister stated that the lack of compliance with the decisions of the Berlin Conference led to the resumption of clashes in Libya.

Lavrov stressed that his country has a common approach with European and regional countries on the continuation of the political process in Libya.

The Berlin Agreement The German capital Berlin hosted last January 19 an international conference on Libya that called on all parties to the conflict to adhere to the ceasefire according to a Turkish-Russian initiative and return to the political track to address the conflict, which was also called for in a resolution adopted by the Security Council in 12 Last February.

Libya is witnessing a political and military division between the internationally-recognized Al-Wefaq government based in Tripoli and the retired Major General Khalifa Hifter, who leads forces controlling the east of the country and much of its south, and launched more than a year ago an attack to control the capital, Tripoli.

Military developments
Though Haftar's forces announced on March 21 the approval of a truce called by the United Nations to focus on efforts to combat the Corona virus, it continues to attack Tripoli.

In response, on March 26, the Al-Wefaq government launched Operation Storm of Peace against Haftar's forces, and in recent days it has taken control of strategic cities on the west coast of Libya.

The intensification of the battles between the forces of Haftar and Al-Wefaq comes at a time when international political efforts to push a political solution in Libya reached a dead end, and the United Nations is content with calling for a humanitarian truce between the two parties in order to devote itself to fighting the Corona pandemic and treating its victims, and allowing the Libyans to prepare for Ramadan in peace. .
