The sheikhs of the Yemeni archipelago of Socotra called for removing all military points of illegal formations and handing them over to government public security forces, as they are responsible for maintaining security and stability in the governorate, in the wake of the rebel brigades in the archipelago of the legitimate authority, and its accession to the so-called Southern Transitional Council.

In a meeting with Socotra, the Sheikhs of Socotra demanded the necessity of carrying out its duty to protect the legitimacy of the state from all forms of rebellion in the archipelago, and stressed the importance of dealing with the local authority regarding providing any external support to any party inside the island.

They also called for the removal of the archipelago from armed appearances, and declared their support for all measures taken by the local authority leadership to control security in the archipelago.

Three battalions belonging to the Yemeni government have rebelled and joined in the past few days what are known as the forces of the Southern Transitional Council, which is supported by the Emirates.

More than a week ago, government forces regained control of the Special Forces camp on Socotra, after fleeing rebel elements who had joined the transitional council.

Yemeni officials accuse the UAE of providing military and financial support to militias set up by Abu Dhabi, and is affiliated with the Transitional Council of the Yemeni Archipelago.

Socotra witnesses from time to time attempts to control vital facilities implemented by gunmen backed by the Emirates, in addition to rebellions of battalions in the government forces and join the forces of the Transitional Council, which demands the secession of southern Yemen from the north.
