The Uber platform, which in addition to ordering from restaurants has also delivered groceries since the start of the pandemic, will further expand its services to also transport parcels and personal items.

Over the past month, "we've seen people around the world looking for new ways to get products delivered to their doorstep quickly, and companies looking to better serve their customers from afar," Uber said in a post. blog posted late Sunday.

"This is why we are expanding our delivery efforts beyond food and groceries to offer on-demand and consumer delivery solutions," added the company.

Under the name of "Uber Direct", the group offers to deliver packages ordered to certain sites to customers.

In New York, for example, Uber has partnered with the over-the-counter drug site, Cabinet.

In Portugal, it partnered with the postal services to deliver its packages, while in South Africa, Uber delivered medicines to those who are most vulnerable to Covid-19 as part of a partnership with the local health authorities and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

With the "Uber Connect" service, the group offers individuals the opportunity to send personal items to family or friends, whether it is a board game or a roll of toilet paper.

This option is available in 25 cities in Australia, Mexico and the United States.
