When the police in January conducted a house search at a drug dealer in Tyresö south of Stockholm, 2 kilograms of dynamite and an explosive cartridge with gunpowder were placed in a bag on a shelf in the dressing room. According to a statement from the Swedish Defense Research Institute, the explosives were ready for use in a few seconds and could cause major damage. They were also likely to be detonated during a fire in the apartment building.

“Familiar left the checkout”

The man was charged with drug offenses and gross violation of the Flammable and Explosive Goods Act. The prosecutor considered that there was a high risk that dynamite would be used in the crime, as the suspect was engaged in drug trafficking.

Last week, the man in Nacka District Court was sentenced to one year in prison for drug offenses, but was released from possession of the explosives. He stated that an acquaintance left him the cash and that he did not know what it contained. The court did not consider it beyond reasonable doubt that he was guilty.

Judge wanted to convict the man

However, the court disagreed, the court's judges and a committee man were different and think that the man's tasks appear as an ex post construction. They wanted to convict the 30-year-old for gross violation of the Flammable and Explosive Goods Act and then he would have been sentenced to two years and eight months in prison instead of one year.

The prosecutor is now considering appealing the acquittal.

- A lot of talk that I will appeal, I will decide on it in the next few days, says Ulrika Lindsö, Chamber Prosecutor at the National Unit against International and Organized Crime.
