An armed man killed 18 people, including a policewoman, for unknown motives, during a random shooting in the rural area of Nova Scotia in Canada, in the worst shooting operation witnessed in Canada in decades.

During his bloody operation, the gunman, Gabriel Wortmann, was mainly disguised in a car similar to the police car, wearing part of the police uniform. Many people were killed in many places and in circumstances and motives are still unknown, causing shock in the country, as the shootings of a large number of people are rare in Canada, unlike its neighbor the United States.

Canadian media said the 51-year-old gunman was involved in the manufacture of dentures, and was killed by the police after chasing him for about 12 hours throughout the Canadian eastern province.

"It seems that the victims have no connection to the shooter, but the fact that this person was in possession of a suit and a police car makes us think, of course, that it is not spontaneous," Chris Leather, federal criminal investigation official in Nova Scotia, told a news conference.

The shooting began in the rural town of Portabic, and several victims were found in and out of a house, after police received reports of gunshots.

The armed man escaped when the police, who launched a massive manhunt, arrived. She appealed to residents of the area originally isolated due to the emerging Coronavirus, to stay in their homes, and even advised them to hide in cellars if possible.
