She begged them to let her do it, but the police did not let go. At the end of the afternoon Sunday, Saint-Brieuc rescue police officers rescued a woman who was about to commit suicide by jumping from the Gouët viaduct which overlooks the capital of the Côtes d'Armor. Alerted by motorists, two young officials listened only to their courage and jumped over the barrier to prevent the woman from committing the irreparable.
He has been living with this story for five days. Appointed three years ago to the police station of Saint-Brieuc, Peter lived a strange Sunday. Called by motorists who saw a woman stop on the RN12, the young agent jumped out of the van still moving to save a desperate woman who was about to end her life. "She got out of her car and was walking towards the barrier. She started to step over it. We ran to prevent her but she had already put herself on the safety net. She was lying on it and wanted to jump, ”says Peter.
"I saw myself leaving"
With his very young colleague Lucie, the policeman did not hesitate and also hoisted himself on the net to grab the woman's leg. "I saw the net sag. I made a lot of films, I saw myself go, ”says the always-on, briochin policeman. In action, he did not even think before crossing the railing of the viaduct 70 meters above the void. After ten to fifteen minutes which seemed to him interminable, Peter finally managed to grab the woman and hoist her on the viaduct with the help of two colleagues who remained higher. "My colleague Lucie held her arm, me her leg to prevent her from sliding."
The woman, aged about 50, was taken care of by the firefighters and hospitalized. Five days after his heroic act, Peter still does not realize the significance of his gesture. "I just hope that she will manage to live better," sums up the young police officer. On the way home, Peter burst into tears when he saw his daughter. "I had a lot of emotions."
