The Libyan National Accord government announced that five civilians were killed yesterday, Friday, by the retirement of the forces of retired Major General Khalifa Haftar to various areas in the capital, Tripoli, including the headquarters of the displaced and a commercial warehouse area, while the reconciliation forces bombed Haftar gatherings inside the "Al-Watiyah" air base southwest of the capital.

On Friday, the Ministry of Health in the Al-Wefaq government stated that a citizen was killed and two others were injured as a result of the shelling of Haftar forces, a headquarters for the displaced in the Farnaj area, south of the capital.

The media advisor to the Ministry, Amin Al Hashemi, told Anadolu Agency that the retired brigade's forces targeted the university dormitory in the Farnaj region, which was previously designated to house the displaced.

Al-Hashemi added that the shelling claimed the lives of a displaced citizen residing in the dormitory, while the two injured belonged to the Ministry of Interior, and they were guarding the place.

A military source in the Al-Wefaq government forces said that Haftar forces had indiscriminately targeted Grad and mortar rockets, populated areas in the Ain Zara hubs and the Hadaba project, south of Tripoli.

Various areas
In the municipality of Souq Al-Jumaa, east of Tripoli, at least one civilian was killed in the shelling that targeted a residential neighborhood. In the Hadaba area, five people were wounded in the shelling of Haftar forces, and civilians were also wounded in the shelling of Tarik Al-Shouk area, south of Tripoli. The hospital medical staff there had to evacuate him after he was bombed.

The Ministry of Economy and Industry in the Al-Wefaq government stated that Haftar's forces bombed the Al-Kuraimiya area south of the capital yesterday, which is the largest commercial gathering in Libya, especially in foodstuffs. The shelling killed an elderly man and wounded other civilians, including four from one family.

A statement issued by the Ministry added that Al-Jazeera received a copy of it that the target area does not have any armed forces or camps, noting that the bombing resulted in the injury of many food stores, which are an important store and a source of food for all Libyans in the east, west and south of the country.

Earlier yesterday, the internationally recognized government forces announced that Haftar's forces had fired 132 shells at civilian targets in the capital.

Observers believe that the intensification of Haftar's bombing of the capital comes to compensate for the great losses suffered by the forces of the government of reconciliation in the past few days, most notably the loss of the country's western coast cities to the Tunisian border.

Al-Wattia base
In contrast, Al-Wefaq government spokesman, Muhammad Qanunu, announced that his forces' fighters bombed the gatherings of Haftar forces and their mechanisms within the strategic "Al-Wattia" air base, which is the last of the main strongholds of those forces in the Libyan West.

Clashes also renewed between the Al-Wefaq government forces and Haftar forces with heavy artillery, Grad rockets and mortar shells in the Ain Zara hubs and the Hadaba project, south of the capital.

In a related context, the United Nations called for the cessation of all hostilities in Libya, and Stephen Dujarric, a spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, stated that the continuation of these acts in Tripoli severely affects civilians, again calling for a humanitarian truce in order to focus efforts on dealing with the outbreak of the Corona virus pandemic in Libya.

Dujarric added that the United Nations Mission in Libya reported that the clashes had killed 64 people in the first three months of this year.
