606 people have fallen ill and another 111 dead have been reported as a result of covid-19 the last day according to the latest statistics from the Public Health Authority. 1,054 people have been in intensive care or are in intensive care right now.

So far, the number of infected and deceased continues to increase. But state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell and several other experts still see some optimism about the development.

- There is a clear plateau position in most parts of the country. Not just in Stockholm. The pressure on IVA seems to be light. We hope this is a trend that is continuing, ”Anders Tegnell told TV4 News.

"Convinced that we are heading downhill"

Former state epidemiologist Johan Giesecke tells SVT that he is confident that the downward trend will continue.

- Although we would see some individual leaps up or down, I am sure the curve is steadily moving downwards.

"Hopefully"

When Assistant State Epidemiologist Anders Wallensten visited the Weekend Studio on Saturday, he was also cautiously positive.

- We still see that it has leveled off a bit, which is hopeful. But it's a tough time with many people getting sick right now. Care has a lot to do. So there is absolutely no danger over. It is important that we continue to be assisted and that we follow the advice and guidelines.

As usual, there may be some delay in reporting during the weekend.

- It's not so good to look at the number of deaths per day because that figure reflects weekends and other things in a mix. It's better to look at about how many cases you have had per day in the past week, says Tegnell in TV4.
