Moscow said yesterday that a dialogue with Washington on Russia's new "hypersonic" weapons systems requires a comprehensive discussion of future US projects.

The weapon "hypersonic" is a missile that can launch at a speed of "5 Mach", that is, five times faster than the speed of sound at least, which means that it can cross a mile (1.6 kilometers) per second.

The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergey Ryabkov, revealed that there can be no dialogue with Washington on the systems of these weapons without a comprehensive discussion of future US projects.

"We confirm once again and send the signal to the United States that the discussion on the issue of strategic stability can be comprehensive," Ryabkov told Russia's Sputnik.

He explained that this relates to the establishment of a global missile defense system, the possibilities of weapons appearing in outer space, a lightning strike program, and others, pointing out that "we cannot ignore these programs and the areas of the US military's work, because we consider them a destabilization of strategic stability."

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, has announced that Russia is ready for dialogue with Washington on new developments and "hypersonic" weapons in the context of discussions of strategic stability. Lavrov expressed his country's readiness to cooperate with the United States on the peaceful development of outer space. Recently, Russia has tested several weapons, including the hypersonic cruise missile, with a range exceeding 500 km for the first time.
