  • LOC.Princess Eleanor and Infanta Sofia, 'disappeared' in the palace

Since the crisis caused by the coronavirus, the Kings have deployed an intense daily activity of video calls and meetings to press the opinion and exchange information from all actors in society: from foreign leaders, to brotherhoods, through associations, companies, the field sanitary ... But the absence of the Princess of Asturias, Leonor, and her sister, Infanta Sofía, have called attention. Despite being the heir, she had not been seen until now, not even accompanying the King in any telematic meeting. Her first appearance in this crisis for the Covid-19 will be with her sister on April 23 to participate virtually in the traditional Quixote Reading, organized by the Círculo de Bellas Artes. It will be the first time that Infanta Sofía is heard in public.

The last news about Princess Eleanor was in early March, when it was learned that a student at her school, attended by her and her sister, had tested positive for coronavirus. Both attended their classes normally, as recommended by the health authorities until the suspension of classes was decreed.

It will now be his first public act since the solemn opening act of the XIV legislature in early February. Given the impossibility of making a live reading due to the state of alarm in the country, the Circle has organized a virtual reading in which the participants have sent their recordings, thus completing some of the most outstanding chapters of Don Quixote.

The poet Joan Margarit, Cervantes Prize 2019, will be in charge of opening the reading. Next, and within the first chapter of the novel, the Princess of Asturias, Leonor, and the Infanta Sofía will take part, who in this way "want to promote and underline the importance of reading in children and young people, especially at this hard time in the one we are in, "they explain from the Círculo de Bellas Artes.

Sources from the Royal House explain that the participation of the Princess and the Infanta aims to support Culture in such a significant day and actively promote reading by children and young people, in addition to the situation of confinement caused by the health crisis.

They also point out that if at the time the Kings decided that the first time the Princess of Asturias was heard in public was to read the Constitution, they have now decided that the first time that the Infanta Sofia was heard in public was to read The Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes. "A tribute to Culture, to the book, to the promotion of reading and to the figure of Cervantes", they wield from Zarzuela.
