A slow but steady decline. The director of Health Jérôme Salomon announced, Friday, April 17, that the number of hospitalizations like that of people in intensive care were again in decline. These are 221 fewer patients counted in the intensive care units compared to Thursday, April 16. For hospitalizations, the drop is 115 patients.

The number of deaths in the last 24 hours amounts to 761. A figure in very slight increase since 753 deaths had been recorded during the previous day.

A total of 18,681 people have died from coronavirus in France since the start of the health crisis.

More than 6,000 patients are currently in serious condition, while an estimated 30,000 more patients have been discharged from hospital in the country.  

Internationally, Jérôme Salomon estimated that if Europe remains very strongly impacted with more than a million cases on its territory, the United States is currently the most affected country in the world.
