Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe made a strong appeal to the Japanese yesterday to stay at home to avoid the spread of the Corona virus, in his stricter statement since the beginning of the crisis.

The new infections set a new record in Tokyo before Abe’s speech, in which he said that the expansion of the emergency this week to cover all parts of the country is driven by concerns that medical services will be unable to absorb in rural areas inhabited by many elderly people.

"Please avoid going out," Abe said, adding that reducing mixing between people in Tokyo and Osaka, two of the areas worst hit by the virus, was still below target levels.

"Everything depends on everyone's behavior," he added.

On the other hand, Abe expressed support yesterday for the role of the World Health Organization in combating the virus.
