In the program "Without appointment" on Europe 1, the sexologist and psychoanalyst Catherine Blanc responds to a single listener who, more than a lack of sex, feels a lack of touch, physical presence and cuddles. He wonders how to fix it for the rest of the confinement.

When you're single and living alone, one physical presence and skin contact against another may be missing. All the more so when the person is forced into confinement for several weeks. This is the case of Jean-David, who questions the sexologist and psychoanalyst Catherine Blanc in the program "Sans rendez-vous", on Europe 1, on the means to remedy this lack of touch.

The question of Jean-David, 37 years old

I am single and unlike others, it is not the sex that I miss the most but the touch, a physical presence, hugs ... How to remedy it for the rest of the confinement?

Catherine Blanc's response

We are mammals and we have built ourselves in a certain matrix. For nine months, we were caressed and our development was made at the rate of these intrauterine movements of which we have kept the memory. Like all mammals, we are looking for a caress, a hug. In addition, we are interdependent on each other and touch is part of that: we need to feel.

We make pleasure hormones that demand this touch again and this is essential because it lights up our brain. When the child is deprived of the presence of his mother or father to fall asleep, he takes a cuddly toy and cuddles so that it returns him to what he has known. This soothes him by the psychological and physiological aspect which puts him in safety.

Take a shower, massage, take care of your body

The goal is to perceive that the other is not there and cannot fulfill this function. Just as the child finds a way to wait for the return of the maternal or paternal arms, it is the moment not to simply let the other make me exist by his touch, but to define myself by my own touch. .

For example, when you take a shower, you don't just wash: it's already a wonderful hug. But also when you put on something cozy, when you massage, put on cream ... You have to take the time to touch your body, take the time to take care of your body, massage your head, brushing your hair ... To feel like I exist because it is something important that does not necessarily depend on the other, although the other will be a wonderful gift to find.
