For many third-year students at the upper secondary school, mouse taking, student flak and jumping are an obvious way to celebrate the student. But according to the Swedish National Agency for Education, this year it will be difficult to organize a traditional student celebration because of the corona crisis.

However, how it will be for Blekinge high school students is still unclear - none of the municipalities in the county has yet decided on how to do it.

- We have said that we will wait until mid-May and wait until then. Even the beam committee, which is run by the students, waits until the end of April / May to decide whether to cancel it or not, says Nils Andersson, principal of Vägga upper secondary school in Karlshamn.

Looking at alternative solutions

The municipality is also awaiting a decision in Karlskrona, but various scenarios and alternative solutions are now being discussed if the traditional celebration does not occur.

- We want to make sure that the students get a student exit. Of course, it is not possible to do as usual with large crowds in the school yard, but we look at variants where you can do it in smaller arrangements. It is important that we can provide some form of closure for those students who have struggled through high school, ”says Mats-Peter Krantz, head of school district in Karskrona.

"We await"

In both Olofström and Ronneby, alternative solutions to a traditional student celebration are discussed.

- We had a discussion today in the morning where we talked about it and thought about different scenarios. It is clear that in some way we should make it worthy of our final students, but we have not yet decided how, says Ronny Mattsson, Head of Operations for the upper secondary schools in Ronneby.

- The upper secondary school has working groups that look at different alternatives, but we have not decided anything, says Patrik Håkansson, head of administration Olofström's municipality.
