From our correspondent in Washington,

Choosing Joe Biden as vice president was one of the best decisions I made. He has all the qualities we want to see in a president now, ”said Barack Obama in front of the camera. In a video of more than ten minutes, the former president showcases all the qualities of the Democratic candidate: " experience, honesty and humility, empathy, grace ". Barack Obama paints a portrait which contrasts with that of the current occupant of the White House.

The former president advocates unity within the Democratic Party, evokes the qualities of all the candidates for the primaries, and insists on the contribution of Bernie Sanders to the political debate.

" Bernie and I have not always agreed on everything, " he said , "but we have always shared the belief that we must make America a fairer country." "

" It is time to fight for our ideas, " concludes Barack Obama, before launching a final call for the rally. The former president remains very popular in the United States. In less than forty minutes, his video was viewed a million times on Twitter.

I'm proud to endorse my friend @JoeBiden for President of the United States. Let's go: https://t.co/maHVGRozkX

■ Obama, strong support

" In the short term it is very positive for Joe Biden because we realized that he was a little inaudible at the start of the coronavirus sequence since he is not responsible, he does not hold any mandate. that he is confined to his home, of course, analyzes Corentin Sellin, a specialist in the United States. And this week, he successively scored two big points: Bernie Sanders, his left opponent, gave him support without any negotiation or compensation, so this is excellent for unity and finally the support of Barack Obama, the president that he served as vice-president for 8 years and that gave him vibrant support. Obviously it is a very good sequence for Joe Biden at the moment when conversely Donald Trump seems to cross again a small period of turbulence with press conferences extremely agitated and opinion polls which start a little down because of his management of the coronavirus. So it's a good short-term streak for Joe Biden. "
