April 13, 2020 At least 14 tornado deaths hit the southern United States, killing at least seven people in Mississippi, another six in Georgia, one in Arkansas, and damaging hundreds of homes from Louisiana to the Appalachians. Many people spent part of the night sheltered in basements, while the sound of sirens warned of possible tornadoes.

The Chattanooga, Tennessee area and several counties in northwest Georgia appear to be particularly affected. Dozens of people have been hospitalized in the Chattanooga area, where the search and rescue teams of firefighters have intervened to answer more than 300 emergency calls. Storms lasted all night, causing floods and landslides in mountainous areas.

Severe storms that left at least 14 people dead and parts of the South reeling from tornadoes that destroyed hundreds of structures are moving north, with more than 150 million people under a wind advisory or warning. https://t.co/SvQL5tHgbR
