Tomas Nord has studied the “success municipalities” Växjö and Skellefteå, which increased their timber construction, among other things through their wood-building strategies, and he says that Norrköping's writing is not as sharp.

- It feels more like a vision document. I do not have a clearer plan of action with set goals for how much wood construction should increase, what activities lead there and who is responsible, says Tomas Nord.

He also sees flashes of light for the wooden construction in Norrköping.

- All expressions of will regarding wood building are positive as it can create behavioral change in an organization. Then it is fun to hear that municipal rental housing is investing in wooden houses in Skärblacka. It gives a good signal, says Nord.

The corona virus postponed the decision

The guideline for increased timber construction, as the proposal is called, has passed the municipal council and would have been taken up by the municipal council on March 30, but because of Corona, the matter was postponed.

“At this stage we cannot say at which proxy meeting it will come. It depends on the future development, ”writes Karin Faxér investigator at the municipal council.

Faster and more climate friendly

The advantages of wood are mainly environmental, that it is a renewable material, but the municipality also sees that construction times can be shorter. The proposal contains a number of principles to be followed:

Wood should always be tested during new construction and renovations, when the municipality itself orders a building.

When private companies are based on municipal land, timber should be favored through, for example. architectural competitions.

In the detailed planning of private buildings, the municipality must also ensure that it is practically possible to build timber.

Opposition positive

The Left Party submitted a motion for more timber construction three years ago and is satisfied with the proposal, although it will take time.

"A proposal that has been very much balled and where I think the final version with the changes made by the local government was good," writes opposition councilor Nickas Lundström (V).
