In South Korea, the number of cases of coronavirus is now "stabilized", announces on France 24 the South Korean foreign minister, Kang Kyung-wha. She explains that her government acted "quickly and preventively" in its fight against the pandemic, quickly brought under control in the country.

In February 2020, South Korea was indeed the second country most affected by Covid-19, after China, but it was able to stem the spread of the virus without imposing a general containment of its population and through, in particular, of a massive screening campaign. In total, the country has recorded just over 200 deaths since the start of the epidemic and just over 10,500 cases of people infected.

For the head of South Korean diplomacy, the recipe for success rests essentially on three parameters: "a solid screening campaign, a vigorous tracing of the virus, and the rapid treatment of patients".

"We don't know everything about this virus"

In this interview, the South Korean Foreign Minister announced, moreover, that patients considered to be "completely cured" of Covid-19 were again "tested positive a few days later", stressing that the nature of the virus n is not fully known to date. "We don't know everything about this virus."

The diplomat also warns of Pyongyang's claims, which insists that no case has been recorded in North Korea. She says her government is monitoring the situation "very closely" and that Seoul has offered health cooperation to its neighbor to the north, but has so far "not received a positive response".

Kang Kyung-wha also praised the role of the World Health Organization (WHO), which she considered "very cooperative and helpful" during the crisis, sweeping away the criticisms made by Donald Trump.

Finally, Kang Kyung-wha confirms that in response to a request from the American president, South Korean companies will ship Tuesday to the United States some 600,000 test kits to help Washington fight the pandemic that is spreading at high speed in the country.
