Local Yemeni sources said that government forces have regained control of the Special Forces camp on Socotra Island, after the escape of rebel elements who had joined the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council.

The governor of Socotra Archipelago confirmed during his meeting with the tribal elders that the Yemeni state is able to impose its prestige and that it will pursue all those involved in the violence and try to fan the conflict in the island.

For their part, the elders of Socotra condemned the violence carried out by armed groups affiliated with the Emirati-backed transitional council with the aim of dragging the governorate into what they described as a square of violence and fighting.

what happened?
The transitional "rebels" took control of the camp on February 18, when Colonel Hussein Shaf, commander of Special Forces in Socotra, rejected the decision to sack him, which was issued by Interior Minister Ahmed al-Misri.

At that time, a demonstration of his forces and Transitional Armed Forces deployed around the Special Forces camp and the roads leading to it.

The incident coincided with the kidnapping of forces of the transitional forces, the director of Socotra Port Said Said, before mediators led by notables and elders in the governorate, and threats by the authorities to use force with them, managed to release him.

Yemeni officials accuse the UAE of providing military and financial support to militias set up by Abu Dhabi to track the transitional.

Socotra witnesses from time to time attempts to control vital facilities implemented by gunmen backed by the Emirates, in addition to rebellions of battalions in the government forces and join the transitional forces, which demands the secession of southern Yemen from the north.
