The Ministry of the Interior will grant a travel exemption in order to go to a refuge to adopt an animal. A decision that pleases associations but which should not be a means of circumventing confinement, warned MP Loïc Dombreval.

The government finally answered the call of the SPA and the Ministry of the Interior decided to grant an exemption from confinement for French people wishing to obtain a new four-legged friend. It will apply from next Thursday.

This tolerance for movement therefore only applies for a very specific reason: to go to a refuge to adopt an animal.

A simplified adoption procedure

To avoid any risk of contamination, animal protection associations have already announced the implementation of a simplified adoption procedure to respect barrier gestures, says SPA president Jacques-Charles Fombonne at the microphone. '' Europe 1.

"The applicants for adoption would choose their animal on the internet, and we would give them a time-stamped appointment. Quite simply so that they are alone, at the entrance to the refuge, no contact with employees or volunteers , physical contact is only with the animal and the person goes home, "he said.

A pet can prove to be a comforting presence to break loneliness in these times of confinement. But like any adoption, it should not be taken lightly. According to the usual procedure, the shelters will pass a precise questionnaire to find out the life criteria of the new adopter, because there is no question of putting a sled dog in an apartment, for example.

Take a pet to get out of your house

Adopting is indeed a responsibility and should not be a means of circumventing the system, warned the deputy Loïc Dombreval, who chairs the study group "animal condition" in the National Assembly: "When you acquire an animal, you becomes responsible, we want a friend, a companion who will accompany us during this confinement but also after. It has not escaped you that on the certificate as it exists today that there is the possibility of going out for walk your pet. "

"So people should not go to shelters to acquire an animal, walk it around the time of confinement to get some air and then bring it back to the shelter," he warns. In case of suspicion, animal protection associations will reserve the right to reverse.
