The Attorney General of the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, Counselor Hassan Muhaimid, revealed the establishment of an independent building within the Punitive and Correctional Institution in Ras Al Khaimah, to be managed by the work system (from a distance), under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince of Ras Al Khaimah and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate, Pointing out that «the building includes 22 rooms for investigation and trial (remote), other than control rooms and administrative offices».

Muhaimid told «Emirates Today» that during the past two weeks, the prosecution managed to manage all criminal trial sessions at the Judicial House in Ras Al-Khaimah “remotely”, where nearly 20 trial sessions were held in criminal cases (misdemeanors and felonies).

He pointed out that the new building is separate from the institution of the penal institution and is designated for the trials of the inmates of the institution, under the direct supervision of the Public Prosecution, and any member of the Public Prosecution can contact any room or courtroom inside the new building remotely with sound and image, whatever the location of the prosecution that operates It is at the emirate’s level, whether the total prosecution, the drug prosecution, the traffic prosecution, the nationality and residency prosecution, or the partial procuratorates, which are located in the police stations of Al Madinah, Al Mamoura, Al Jazeera, and Al Rams.

And he clarified that the new building guarantees the investigation "remotely" and the possibility of trying the defendants without leaving the punitive institution to transfer them to the investigation rooms or trial halls in the Judicial House in Ras Al Khaimah, as a member of the prosecution or judge can see the accused "remotely" via video call.

He pointed out that "the court of justice now includes trial rooms equipped with a highly developed communication system linked to the criminal judge's room and the penal institution, so that the judge can try any accused without mixing with him."

He continued that «the remote communication system in the Public Prosecution Department guarantees the possibility of a member of the Public Prosecution contacting the General Command of the police and police stations deployed in the emirate, as well as with the parties to cases and lawyers, so that he can complete judicial investigations without the need to contact any person, thereby contributing directly to the implementation of the state’s orientation to take All precautionary measures and measures to cope with an epidemic (Covid 19) ».

He added that «members of the Public Prosecution and translators can now attend all criminal trial sessions (remote) without the need for personal attendance at the court, as the work system in the Public Prosecution Department in Ras Al Khaimah meets all the requirements stipulated by the law, whether the accuracy and clarity of sound and picture or Recording all procedures on the department's electronic system, and allows for the implementation of procedures for investigation, whether interrogation and confrontation or the presentation of seizures, documents, photos and videos, while the detainee is in the penal institution ».

He explained that the system is able to communicate with all police officers in the Department of Investigations and Narcotics Control at the General Command of Ras Al Khaimah Police, and with the officers at the city's police stations, Al-Maamoura, Al-Jazeera, Al-Rams, and Al-Digdqa at the emirate level, in order to implement criminal measures "remotely".
