The plan is for construction in Salzgitter southeast of Hanover to start next year and that a factory that will produce 16GWh per year will be ready by 2024.

- We draw lessons from the work of building Northvolt one in Skellefteå and Northvolt Labs in Västerås and simply make a so-called blueprint in Germany, says Jesper Wigardt, chief communications officer at the company.

According to him, the upcoming building in Germany will also have effects locally in Skellefteå.

- Specifically, it is about more buildings and more labor needed, Wigardt notes.

Information on redundancies

Media has stated that Northvolt, in the wake of the corona crisis, should now lay off 5 percent of its staff of a total of 700 employees, but that is a task that Jesper Wigardt wants to downplay.

- We have discussions with a number of people on the basis that we need to have control over our costs, but there is no drama in this but is about trying to balance the organization.

At the same time, the company recruits and has a total of 200 job ads outside.

- Some parts have grown a little fast and it is our great challenge to handle it, says the chief communicator.
