Yemeni medical sources confirmed to Al-Jazeera Net today, Friday, that the first case of Corona virus was recorded in Hadramout governorate in the east of the country, after conducting tests for a person coming from outside the city of Al-Shahr, which showed that he had most of the symptoms of the epidemic.

A source in the National Committee to confront the Corona epidemic (government) said that the patient's condition is stable, and he was transferred to receive health care, and the medical teams and the concerned agencies took the necessary measures to care for him.

In a memorandum addressed to the security services - Al-Jazeera Net obtained a copy - the governor of the city of Hadramaut, Major General Faraj Salmin Al-Bahsni, ordered the start of imposing a curfew in the city of Al-Shahr, located in the coast of Hadramout.

Reuters news agency quoted a local official in Shahr as saying that the injured is a Yemeni worker working in the city's port.

As part of the precautionary efforts to tackle the new Corona epidemic, the government provides 30,000 rapid screening tools for detecting the new Corona virus, the shipment will arrive within the next two days, and it will be distributed to land and sea ports, health isolation centers and hospitals.

The governor also directed the closure of the city's port, the imposition of curfews in a number of other districts until Saturday morning, and the continuation of the curfew throughout the city from six in the evening until six in the morning permanently.

Precautionary measures
Some of the precautions taken by the local authorities also include preventing gatherings in the city, closing mosques and markets, and conducting preventive spraying campaigns in most areas.

Eyewitnesses in the area reported that police and security patrols began to roam the city's streets and address citizens through loudspeakers, to warn them not to leave their homes.

This announcement raised fears among many people of the city of Al-Shehr for fear of the spread of the virus more widely, and some appealed to the people of the region not to leave their homes, and the return of everyone who left the area recently.

International warning
The United Nations organizations have issued warnings in the past few days of the consequences of the outbreak of the Corona virus pandemic in Yemen, which has been witnessing a war for nearly five years, as its health infrastructure has become completely destroyed, in addition to the difficult economic crises that the population suffers from, and the spread of deadly diseases In a number of regions, such as malaria and tuberculosis.

Speaking to Reuters yesterday, Thursday, the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen Lisa Grande said that if the virus spreads in the country, the result will be "catastrophic" because the health status of at least half of the population is "very deteriorating", and the country does not have supplies, capabilities or Sufficient facilities to deal with the situation.

The announcement came this morning of the first infection of Corona after a ceasefire declared by the Saudi-Emirati coalition entered into force on Thursday, in response to a call by the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for a ceasefire in various conflict areas in the world to devote to fighting the Corona virus.
