Former Liverpool player and coach Scottish Kenny Dalglish, 69, tested positive for Covid-19 but remains "asymptomatic", his family announced on Friday in a statement relayed by the "Reds".

"Sir Kenny was hospitalized on Wednesday to treat an infection that required the injection of intravenous antibiotics," said the relatives of the former attacker in a message posted on the Liverpool FC website.

The Scotsman, who started his career at Celtic Glasgow and won the Champions League three times with the "Reds" (1978, 1981, 1984), "was then tested for the Covid-19 although it didn "has previously had no symptoms of the disease," it said.

"Unexpectedly, the test result was positive, but it remains asymptomatic," said the family of the former player who had coached Liverpool for a season and a half from 2011 to 2012.

Before his admission to the hospital, Dalglish wanted to "voluntarily isolate himself" with his family "for a period longer than that recommended," said his relatives.
