“The UK calls on all member countries of the CWC, the UN Security Council and other organizations to respond decisively and bring those responsible to justice,” the communique says.

The British Foreign Ministry called the conclusions presented in the OPCW report “not leaving doubts” about Syria’s violation of obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).

The Russian Foreign Ministry, in turn, noted that the OPCW report on chemical attacks in Syria is custom-made and may have been compiled under pressure from Western countries.

On April 8, the OPCW released a report investigating chemical attacks in Syria in 2017. According to investigators, airstrikes in the province of Hama using chlorin and sarin were carried out by the Syrian Air Force.

At a meeting of the UN Security Council in January, Russia provided evidence of falsification of the use of chemical weapons in the Syrian Duma in 2018.
