Within the coronavirus war, small battles are also won that bring a ray of hope. Like the one that Concepción Ochoa and her son Pedro Pablo Martín have freed to be together in their fight against the disease.

Ochoa was admitted last Friday to the ER of the Gregorio Marañón Hospital in Madrid, advised by her GP, suffering from pneumonia caused by the coronavirus. At dawn, they took her to the floor and she was admitted to the hospital.

Meanwhile, his son Pedro Pablo, with Down syndrome, was left in charge of his older brother Elías. Pedro Pablo started to have a fever and, as his condition was getting worse, they decided to take him to the La Princesa hospital, because they have a specific Down syndrome unit there.

The doctors determined that it was necessary to admit him, but then the family alerted that his mother was also hospitalized in the Gregorio Marañón .

Realizing the situation, the health professionals recommended the patient be transferred to this hospital center so that he could be with his mother.

At that time, members of the health coordination areas of both hospitals activated, together with the Summa 112, an operation so that the mother and her child could receive hospital care together.

Same room

At the Gregorio Marañón Hospital the procedures were carried out to be able to hospitalize the son in the same room as the mother, while at the Hospital de La Princesa the transfer was organized, which was carried out by Summa 112.

Currently, the two patients are now admitted to the Gregorio Marañón, where they may be taking care of each other and hope to beat Covid-19.

"Since he is with his mother, he feels much better, calmer and more animated, " says Lorena, Pedro Pablo's nurse at the Gregorio Marañón.

"He and I are very happy. Because seeing his mother next to him reassures him and I know a little how far he can go," concludes Concepción Ochoa, from the hospital bed.
