The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, welcomed the announcement by the Alliance to Support Legitimacy in Yemen of a comprehensive ceasefire in Yemen for a period of two weeks, extendable from today.
The Secretary-General said in a statement that this initiative by the coalition, would help in strengthening efforts to combat the emerging corona virus "Covid 19", and called on the Houthis to respond to this initiative.
The statement stressed that through dialogue, a mechanism can be agreed to maintain the ceasefire, and reach confidence-building measures to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people and resume the political process to reach a comprehensive settlement to end the conflict.
