The risk of being infected with coronavirus through so-called indirect contact infections, such as when touching surfaces or implements such as plastic scoops and sleeves, is considered to be very small, writes the National Food Agency on its website. And when it comes to the candy itself, the sugar seems to be a rescue.

- There is generally very little risk of spreading infection when picking candy. Candy is very sweet and dry and there is not much that survives in it, says Christina Lantz, microbiologist at the National Food Agency.

Important with good hand hygiene

However, she points out time and again that hand hygiene is important when handling or picking candy, in all situations, but especially when there is a pandemic.

- It is important in corona times that we have good hand hygiene all the time, and that is true even when we take picking candy.
