About 50 Republicans in the US House of Representatives have warned the Saudi crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, that economic and military cooperation between the two countries is at risk if Riyadh fails to tackle the current oil crisis, by cutting production and rebalancing energy markets.

The letter said the US lawmakers will support any measures that the US administration deems appropriate if Saudi Arabia fails to act with integrity to end the energy market crisis.

They also expressed concern that what they called an "artificial increase" in Saudi oil production, was undermining crude markets during a global health crisis, in reference to the outbreak of the emerging Corona virus.

The message comes ahead of a critical meeting expected to be held today, Thursday, via video for members of the "OPEC Plus" group, to discuss the issue of reducing oil production.

Oil prices tumbled as the spread of the Corona virus caused a sharp decline in demand for crude, and Saudi Arabia and Russia pumped oil as much as possible in a race for market share.

For his part, US President Donald Trump said that the United States has many options if OPEC and Russia do not reach an agreement on oil markets.

Trump said at a press conference of the Corona Virus Crisis Management cell in Washington, that great progress had been made regarding the dispute between Saudi Arabia and Russia over oil production. He also mentioned that American oil companies have reduced their production.
