A boost for Parisian families during confinement due to the coronavirus. The mayor of Paris announced this Thursday the creation of an exceptional aid of 3.5 million euros to "compensate" for the suspension of school canteens.

"We felt it was important to compensate for the suspension of this essential public service of school canteens and the closure of food markets, by giving a helping hand to the families who need it most," explains the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo Thursday in a press release.

While many suffer loss of income, we believe it is important to compensate for the suspension of school canteens and the closure of markets with help for families who need it most to access quality food.

This aid "will benefit 28,579 families" representing "52,000 children" and will be "automatically paid" into their account, "without any action" on their part, "thanks to a partnership with the Caisse d'Allocation Familiales (CAF) in Paris" , she said.

Lump sum payment proportional to income

Beneficiaries will receive a lump sum payment, the amount of which will be proportionate to the family's income and the number of children. Thus, families who benefited from a canteen rate of 0.13 euros / meal will receive 150 euros, those who paid 0.85 euros / meal, 100 euros and those who paid 1.62 euros / meal, 50 euros.

To this basic aid, 50 euros will be added from the second child and within the limit of 3 children, for each beneficiary family.

Also concerned about the consequences of the canteen closures, Paris MP Pierre-Yves Bournazel (UDI-Agir) had proposed to him this Thursday to organize a meal distribution service for students of Parisian schools belonging to families in situation precariousness during the confinement period.

He recalled in a press release that "for some children, the midday meal (in the canteen) is sometimes the only balanced meal of their day".
