On April 7, 2020, State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi held a telephone conversation with Swiss Federal Councillor and Foreign Minister Cassis.

Wang Yi said that after the arduous efforts of the Chinese people, China has generally controlled the domestic epidemic, but still faces the risk of epidemic rebound, especially the challenge of external input. This fully shows that the epidemic has no borders or races, and all countries belong to the same community of human destiny, and should work together to overcome difficulties.

Wang Yi said that the Swiss government and people have provided valuable support during the Chinese anti-epidemic process. During the Ching Ming Festival, China held a mourning activity against the martyrs who died of the epidemic and the deceased compatriots. The Swiss Embassy and Consulate in China took the initiative to lower the flag by half to participate, reflecting the friendly sentiment of the Swiss people to the Chinese people.

Wang Yi said that China is doing everything in its power to provide support to countries around the world in the fight against epidemics, and has established a green channel to ensure the rapid and convenient delivery of anti-epidemic materials. The ventilator is currently the most urgently needed medical equipment for anti-epidemic in various countries. China is anxious about the world and is ramping up production day and night. Switzerland and other countries are suppliers of important components for ventilators, hoping to increase their supply substantially, help enterprises increase production, and alleviate the urgency of countries. This can not only provide material security for the global anti-epidemic struggle, but also help maintain the stability of the global industrial chain and supply chain. The Chinese side is also willing to strengthen cooperation in the research and development of medicines and vaccines with the Swiss side. I hope and believe that Swiss can effectively protect the health and safety of Chinese nationals and students studying in Switzerland.

Wang Yi said that in the face of the severe challenges posed by the epidemic to human health and safety, the international community should give up prejudice and suspicion and strengthen solidarity and collaboration. I believe that the international community, including Switzerland, can fairly evaluate China's anti-epidemic efforts, and resolutely resist words and deeds that use the epidemic to engage in political hype. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland. It is believed that the experience of both sides in fighting the epidemic will further consolidate and deepen the friendship between China and Switzerland.

Cassis said that Switzerland congratulated China on the important results achieved in its anti-epidemic struggle, thanked China for its support and assistance in combating the epidemic in Switzerland, and was willing to strengthen cooperation with China in ventilator production, drug and vaccine research and development, and jointly ensure the industry The supply chain is stable, reducing the impact of the epidemic on the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. Switzerland does not approve or participate in the politicization of the epidemic. At present, the international community needs solidarity and cooperation instead of blaming each other. The Swiss side will treat Chinese citizens and international students in Switzerland well to ensure their health and safety, and is willing to jointly celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries after defeating the epidemic with China.
