The idea was that the production of gin would be in full swing at the brewery in Karlshamn by this time. But since last week, the newly installed distiller is used instead to produce hand spirit.

- The raw material in the production is discarded beer that we distill. Right now, beer is on its way to us from other microbreweries in the country who wanted to help, says Dan-Magnus Svensson, CEO of Brewery 19.

"Absolutely overwhelmed"

So far, about 300 liters of hand spirit have been produced, but demand is much greater than that. Everything from regions to individuals has shown interest in the product.

- We are absolutely overwhelmed with all requests, we get about 50 emails a day. We are not able to produce as much, but we will keep the distiller running throughout the Easter weekend, ”says Dan-Magnus Svensson.

The corona crisis led to reduced sales

Like many other companies, Karlshamnsbryggeriet was hit by the corona crisis, when sales at local restaurants almost stopped.

- At the same time, Systembolaget is increasing sales, but it does not correspond to the decline in restaurants, says Dan-Magnus Svensson.

Is the switch to hand-wringing a way to save your own economy?

- It is an important income because we have to get in so much money that we have cover for our costs. But at the same time we try to sell the handgun as cheaply as we can, says Dan-Magnus Svensson.
