As covid-19 has spread in the community, travel restrictions have been extended and many have feared that even summer trips abroad will be canceled.

- I think it will be problematic to travel the world this summer. It will probably be a holiday in Sweden, I think if you think realistically, state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell told Aftonbladet.

Several of Sweden's largest tour operators, including Tui and Apollo, say that they follow the Foreign Ministry's recommendations on travel stops and are waiting for further information. At present, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' recommendation to refrain from traveling abroad until June 15 applies.

Hope for the upswing

However, Katarina Daniels, communications manager at Ticket, believes that many airlines are prepared for a summer when the plan is on the ground.

- Many people give notice and leave now and I think they do it with the back mind that this can last over the summer. Many are preparing for the worst case scenario.

At the same time, Daniels believes that many in the aviation industry hope for a boost as soon as the crisis is over.

"Big companies will do well"

- It is believed that the restrictions create a longing for people, which will generate a rush once you start flying again. And then you want to be ready to start the business.

Daniels still believes that the big companies will manage the pandemic without going bankrupt.

- Much depends on the state's actions and what companies they help. Large companies will do well. But smaller players who do not have the same broad clientele become the tougher for it.

Erik Lundberg, a researcher at the Center for Tourism at the University of Gothenburg, believes that the corona pandemic may affect our travel patterns in the long term.

Security determines

- What determines most how likely you are to travel or not to travel anywhere is how safe you perceive a particular destination or mode of transport, and it is very subjective. But many people probably feel that it is not very safe to sit trapped in an airplane with a few hundred other people for several hours at this time.

Lundberg also believes that the corona virus can be one of all arguments that can be added to the pile for reasons to reduce flying overall.

- The great climate discussion, corona and economic recession are all factors that contribute to how we travel. It will be interesting to see what it will be like after the pandemic.
