The safety representatives consider that protective visors are not adequate protective equipment in the elderly, but also require staff to have mouth protection under the visor.

- It is unfortunate that you only followed one of the advisory authorities and did not take into account the Swedish Work Environment Authority's regulations on infectious risk, says Peter Olsson, chief safety officer of the elderly care Kungsholmen, who together with the elderly resident's safety representative Shilan Abdulmhsin took the initiative to stop the protection.

The shelter lasted for about six hours and the chief safety officers made sure that the elderly were given their medicines and food, but the staff kept at least a meter distance.

The union got right

When the safety stop was later tried by the Swedish Work Environment Authority, the union side got right. If staff handle a corona-infected person without mouth guard, the employer may have to pay SEK 100,000 in fine.

The employer believes that they have worked in accordance with the recommendations of the Public Health Authority and the Swedish Disease Protection Agency and will now appeal against the decision.
