The Stockholm region's call for staff to move into the corona crisis was met by thousands of interest reports. Many of those who heard about them are medical students who want to combine their studies with work in the field. At the same time, the tough pace can lead to the students not having time to study and risk not being ready to become physicians for the summer.

- Many are worried that they will not be able to study at the same time. Especially since it is so important that health care can take advantage of our expertise this summer. At the same time, we want and need our help now, says Niki Shams, who has volunteered in healthcare.

According to the union's own calculations, 300 students in the region can start working as a sub-physician this summer - if they can combine their studies with work.

"Worried about not getting the right protective gear"

The students who belong to the union are not only worried about their studies. Inadequate protective equipment, high workload and excessive responsibility are also a recurring concern.

- Several parts of the education mean that you work practically and there is no proper protective equipment so you do not get the experience you need. At the same time, the students do not want to be infected just because they have chosen a specific education, she says.
