SVT Nyheter Småland has previously stated that a record number of pupils had their study grants withdrawn due to schooling, during the last academic year. Among other things, we have visited Växjö free high school where 33 pupils received their study grant last school year, compared to the three academic year 2016/2017.

In recent weeks when students instead work from home, because they have had distance education due to the corona pandemic, Växjö celebrating high school has noticed an increased presence. According to Maria Blom, the headmaster of the school, this is something they should try to investigate in the future.

"Is it as simple as making it easier to connect to the computer at home than to get up and go to school, or are there more factors at play," she writes in an email.

Even at Västervik's upper secondary school, they have seen an increased presence and it is something that will be of interest to be analyzed eventually.

Figures from CSN are delayed

At CSN, the Central Student Aid Committee, they say they suspect it may be so, but they have no figures yet.

"There is a certain lag on school tuition, so we will not be able to see any effect of homeschooling at the earliest this summer, but it may be more difficult to report absenteeism," says Peter Engberg, an analyst at CSN.
