Asier Etxeandia. Bilbao, 1975. Muso 'yonqui' by Antonio Banderas in 'Dolor y gloria' and prince of 'glam' with his group Mastodonte, participates in 'La invisible line ', the series by Mariano Barroso on the origins of ETA that is premiering this Wednesday.

Doing a series like this implies having to talk about ETA. In truth, I am very lazy. It is a subject that any Basque has experienced very closely. I was in the midst of people from both sides and I have been able to experience the pain of each of them. But no one, from the pain, has tried to solve it, give voice or speak. In what sense? One thing that touches my balls on the part of both sides is that you can not even speak, because every time the subject appears it is like if a new war arose: We are not going to want to understand what are the motives of one and the other. But there are those who denounce that they are trying to whitewash or hide this part of History. It just happened recently and, damn, it was very 'heavy'. But I think enough time has passed since ETA was dissolved forever to be able to talk about what happened without so many blisters rising. And I liked this project by Mariano Barroso that he did not position himself at any time. Are you aware that everything you say about this matter is going to be looked at with a magnifying glass? Whatever you say, they are going to shoot you, they are going to take advantage of Any opinion you give, as the social networks are, as the politically correct life is, with everything that must be done to avoid hurting any group. But, I insist, we must talk about what happened. Since we have to talk about what happened in the Civil War or with Napoleon, why does it weigh so much what an actor can say? Do people need idols to worship and also to target, shoot, and blame everything. The moment you are exposed, the one who needs inspiration will catch you and the one who needs to blame someone too. In this case, the greatest effort for artists is to keep their heads in place, not to decline when the whole society blames you or thanks you because you have opened their eyes. Stay in the same place. Because this is a job. And what is the purpose of this job? The purpose of every artist is to move and talk about his time and revolutionize the one who is observing, but from a place much more internal than the head. From the emotion, from the heart, so that a catharsis is lived. And the role of the actors in this crisis due to the coronavirus? We motivate us to get out of the holes. It comes out of this hole, but it is a fat hole. As fat as there has been in world wars, like what our grandparents have lived: what it is to lose children, families, to be raped, to starve, to be exiled, to be tortured ... Things that we have not even experienced ... Well , 'The invisible line' speaks of the fact that torture has been experienced. We are very important to society, despite the fact that there is a terrifying group that believes otherwise. We continue educating, telling the stories and the mistakes. What do you think about Vox's criticism of the Spanish film world? What they want is advertising. They should not even be named. Their strategy is to attract attention, burst and say an ever greater barbarity, more medieval, more ignorant, so that everyone talks about them. In plan: "We are becoming famous and all the winners of this country are going to vote for Vox." It is amazing. A lack of empathy, of knowledge, of kindness towards others ... It is like generating hatred for its own sake. I have the feeling that they are not even aware of what they say. And what do you think of the dichotomy between 'puppeteers' and farmers? If the whole fucking life the actors have been defending farmers and telling their stories! Besides, the man who wrote that will surely be at home swallowing series after series, film after film, book after ... Well, no, I don't think he will read. And you, personally, how are you experiencing this crisis? 'believer'. I need to believe, to have a motivation in my life, to have hope. But not to stay still. I have to do something to always have a new mission, something to create, that is good for me and for all, that serves to Something. If I don't have that vision, I get out of the way, I shoot myself. Can we learn something from this? If each of us has an illusion or a motivation, we will come out of it gracefully and learn something new. The Earth has said: stop, you bastards, what is You are leaving it dry. And can it become art? I do not believe much in pamphlets. Pamphlets fall when we have the opportunity to be emotionally political without being sectarian. I'm not here right now to criticize people who have done it wrong. I am now to motivate people who want to do it well and in some way denounce those who have done it wrong, so as not to do it as badly. That is my job. Enough of throwing balls out at a time like this, because hate only calls hate. I think we are great emotional educators, that we have to denounce and also entertain. In addition to being an actor, lately he has also lavished a lot on himself as a musician with his Mastodon project. There, too, are you suffering from the effects of Covid-19? It is impossible to prosper. Now I have had to stop my tour. Absolute ruin. But I am one of the many millions of companies in this country that are experiencing this. Still, I can't throw in the towel. I just don't know how to do anything else. This will end, we'll invent something, I'll get up. Although the people of this country think that we are covered, the reality is not even similar. I have had to do four jobs at the same time all my life. And how is it divided between acting and music? If I stop I die, I dry like a plant. The monsters I have begin to speak to me all at once, to remind me that deep down I am shit, like everyone else. So the only thing that saves me is to continually do, because what saves me saves the one who sees me. It is my obligation, I am a shoddy artist.
