The Madrid Minister of Interior, Justice and Victims, Enrique López, explained that between March 15 and 31, the capital of Madrid died "from all causes", although the majority from coronaviruses, 5,950 people , when in 2019, in the same period, 1,100 people died. In an interview this Tuesday on esRadio, López said that in the last 24 hours there have been 235 deaths due to a direct cause attributed to Covid-19 , and that on average there have been between 90 and 100 deaths per day, with days in which 500 people have died.

"We have passed the peak of the wave and the system is going to relax towards a relative normality , " said the counselor.

López recalled that the Ministry of Health determined that to measure the evolution of the pandemic, only confirmed victims of the coronavirus would be counted and not the suspected ones.

In his opinion, apart from being a "good or bad" unit of measurement, the truth is that there have been "many deaths at home or in residences."

With regard to the bodies transferred to the three morgues put up in Madrid at the Ice Palace, in the city of Justice and on the Majadahonda Ice Rink, the counselor has stated that they remain there provisionally until the funeral homes and families decide what to do with them.

The counselor has lamented the "sad and high cost in human lives" that the pandemic has left, although he has stated that the recovery data is "positive", although the health system has been "stressed", with moments "very close to the limit" .

"You cannot harbor unbridled optimism, but you start to see the bottle half full," López said, noting that emergencies are no longer forced.

In the case that the body is taken by the Military Emergency Unit to one of the provisional intermediate spaces enabled by the evolution of the pandemic (Ice Palace, future Institute of Legal Medicine or the Majadahonda skating rink) it will be the company funeral home who will drive you from there to the mortuary or cemetery.
