The events occurred at 02.30 during the night towards Sunday. The first assault occurred at Bredgränd. There, a woman was assaulted and the incident classified as rape.

- A woman was assaulted from behind. It's a man who insults her. She manages to free herself by kicking herself loose, and the man then runs from the scene, says Daniel Wikdahl.

The police can see similarities in the approach with another assault, which occurred at a hamburger restaurant on Stora torget in Uppsala.

- It is a woman being harassed by a man. This assault is also interrupted after a while and the man leaves the scene. The incident is classified as sexually abusive.

A man is arrested

Both women who have reported being assaulted give similar cues to the perpetrator. During the night, police also arrest a person suspected of rape and sexual assault.

- He is arrested and questioned, but it nevertheless becomes that the prosecutor does not choose to arrest him. He is not, however, removed from the investigation, says Daniel Wikdahl, the police spokesman.

Is the person known by the police before?

- We know who he is.

Investigates the connection to an assault the night before

Even during the night towards Saturday, an assault occurred near the Michael church. The incident was first classified as sexually abusive, but later re-classified as rape. Police are now investigating links between the incidents.

- The offender had departed from the scene when the police patrol arrived. There are similarities in terms of the approach, and we investigate connections to the events during Sunday night, says Daniel Wikdahl.
