Two new buildings on rue d'Aubagne, where two buildings collapsed on November 5, 2018 killing 8 people, will be destroyed, announced the mayor of Marseille on Saturday. "The opinion of the experts, as well as the results of the various studies all tend to the same conclusion: only their deconstruction is possible and feasible", writes the town hall of Marseille which signed a decree to this effect.

The two buildings are located at numbers 69 and 71 rue d'Aubagne. They were next to the numbers 63 and 65 which collapsed and the 67, which also threatened to collapse and was destroyed by firefighters in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Nearly 4,000 people evacuated since the collapse

"The deconstruction process at 69 and 71, rue d'Aubagne will take place as soon as the college of experts has determined, during its meeting scheduled for mid-April, the precise arrangements," said the town hall.

Since the collapse of these buildings, 420 buildings and more than 3,700 people have been evacuated to Marseille, according to the town hall. At the end of November 2019, an official report from the High Committee for the Housing of disadvantaged people, attached to Matignon, estimated that Marseille was experiencing "a real humanitarian crisis" linked to a series of deficiencies in the town hall but also in the State. Information against X for "manslaughter" was opened after the tragedy.
