A man shot and killed five people near Ryazan in central Russia because he believed they were making too much noise at night under his windows, in full containment, police said on Sunday.

The suspect, a 32-year-old man, opened fire on a group of young men, four men and a woman, who "spoke loudly in the street under his windows" around 10 p.m. Saturday evening, investigators said.

Russians invited to stay at home

The man had complained from his balcony to the group and an argument had broken out. He then took his hunting rifle, they said. The victims all died from their injuries on the spot.

The tragedy took place in the small town of Yelatma, 200 km southeast of Moscow, in full containment to fight against the spread of the new coronavirus. Most Russians are expected to stay at home.
