Coronavirus: Quebec, a good student of containment in force in Canada

According to the list established by Google, Quebec is the first in North America, the United States and Canada to follow the rules of home confinement to the letter. The multinational is based on geolocation data collected in 131 countries to draw up this list of achievements.

In his daily speech, Prime Minister François Legault had nothing but good words for his fellow Quebecers who are trying to limit their trips as much as possible, if we are to believe the data coming from their mobile phones.

" Proud of Quebecers, proud to see these results, I mean of course congratulations and thank you to all Quebecers. Then what is especially important is that I am convinced that it will save hundreds of lives. Well done, well done, well done. "

Anonymous data compiled by Google from the geolocation of laptops shows that the attendance of grocery stores fell by 44% in Quebec, as well as that of parks and public gardens by nearly 68%. A much larger drop than in New York State where the epidemic is wreaking havoc.

For Richard Massé, of the Department of Public Health, confinement therefore limits the spread of the virus: “ Certainly we would have an even much higher curve if we had not done so. So that is what must be done, we do it very well, and we must also take care of the places where we are vulnerable. "

Health authorities are particularly monitoring retirement homes where more than half of the Covid-19 deaths have so far occurred in Quebec.

Quebec, a province with nearly 8,000 people affected by the virus, has implemented social distancing rules for three weeks with home confinement.
