Coronavirus: Africa and the pandemic Sunday April 5

Africa today has 8,536 confirmed cases (518 additional cases compared to yesterday) in 50 States of the African Union. The Covid-19 has already claimed the lives of 360 people (21 more than yesterday) according to the results this Sunday at 7 am UT from the Center for the prevention and control of diseases of the AU. 710 patients recovered. The three states most affected in terms of coronavirus cases are South Africa, Algeria and Egypt.

Two Algerian military cargo planes from China carrying over 8 million of these precious objects landed in Algiers this Sunday morning. • The disappearance of a former anti-Gaddafi rebel leader
We learn of the death, as a result of the Covid-19 disease, of Mahmoud Jibril, ex-executive head of the rebellion which overthrew the regime of Colonel Gaddafi in 2011. According to his party, the Alliance of National Forces, he died in Cairo where he had been hospitalized for two weeks.
• A case within the Minusma
On Twitter, the UN force chief in Mali, Mahamat Saleh Annadif, announced last night that a first positive case had been detected among the personnel. Minusma reaffirms its support for the Bamako authorities in the fight against Covid-19. Last night, with the General Directorate of Health and Civil Protection, she lent a hand to disinfect the large market in the Malian capital. A decontamination campaign for other public places in the Bamako district is underway.

In Egypt, the Coptic Orthodox Church extends the suspension of prayers during Holy Week. Measure to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the country, the second affected on the continent in terms of positive cases. All churches have been closed since March 21. On its Facebook page, the Coptic Orthodox Church announced that only relatives of the deceased could attend the funeral.
• A Sunday in Dakar
Ten healings, 3 new cases: in total 137 patients remain in care this Sunday. The state of emergency has been extended by 30 days since this Sunday. The curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. remains in effect. Finally, in Dakar 4 large hotels, representing 625 rooms, are requisitioned.
• Five Guinean journalists tested positive
Latest, Mohamed Mara, journalist at Espace FM radio and member of the team that hosts the famous program "Les Grandes Gueules". The National Health Security Agency (ANSS) announced that he was positive for Covid-19. He is the fifth journalist to test positive. All are taken care of at the epidemiological treatment center located within the grounds of the Donka national hospital. Yesterday, the National Health Security Agency announced 38 new confirmed cases. This now brings the number of positive cases in the country to 111, of which 5 are cured. Guinea has so far recorded no deaths related to Coronavirus.

• More than 5,000 prisoners pardoned in Morocco
King Mohammed VI made this decision to avoid any risk of spreading Covid-19 in the jails of the kingdom. According to the Moroccan Minister of Justice, the lucky ones were chosen according to their " age, state of health and good behavior ". All of the country's borders have been closed since mid-March when a state of health emergency was declared.
• No truce for the round ball in Burundi
The Burundi Football Federation decides to continue its championships despite the pandemic. An extraordinary general assembly brought together this Sunday the presidents of the clubs of first and second division and the Minister of Health. The latter, who announced the first three cases of Covid-19, ensures that measures will be taken such as " washing the hands and taking temperature of spectators before they enter the stadiums ".
