As the Covid-19 continues to progress in France and around the world, many dogs, cats, and other four-legged companions are abandoned by their owners, who see in them an additional risk of contagion. "It's wrong," insists Brigitte Bardot at the microphone of Europe 1.

"We do not yet have a wave of abandonment like summer when going on vacation," she nuances, but the risk is "real". Especially since the activity of shelters is also impacted by health measures to combat the spread of viruses.

"It is important that host families come forward"

Abandonments are not the only cause. Some sick people are no longer able to care for their pets, hospitalized or too weak to go out. To help them, while relieving the shelters, Brigitte Bardot wants other reception solutions, temporary or permanent, to be implemented. "For all people who do not want to part with their animals but have to because of health reasons, it is important that host families come forward," she calls.
