Stephen Kenny was named coach of the Republic of Ireland's national team on Saturday, replacing Mick McCarthy, the Irish Football Federation announced on Saturday.

Stephen Kenny, a former under-21 coach, was to succeed McCarthy after Euro-2020, which was rescheduled in 2021 due to the coronavirus.

Eire were scheduled to face Slovakia on March 26 in play-offs, but the match was initially moved to June before being postponed indefinitely.

Mick McCarthy directed the national selection of the Republic of Ireland from 1996 to 2002, then since November 2018.
